Wedding Season in Austin: Your Complete Bridal Hair Planning Guide

Wedding Season in Austin: Your Complete Bridal Hair Planning Guide

It sounds like congratulations are in order! We know you’re still probably about 1,000 decisions and phone calls away from enjoying your special day, but we’re hoping to make things a little easier with a quick guide to bridal hair. At Blonde Faith Salon, our Avery Ranch stylists have walked hundreds of Austin brides through the journey from “I said yes!” to “I do,” and the biggest lesson we’ve learned is that the timeline matters a whole lot more than the quality of your Pinterest board.

When Is Wedding Season in Austin?

In many other areas across the U.S., summer is the prime wedding season. But in Central Texas, you might be asking for a heat stroke if you’re planning an outdoor ceremony in mid-summer. The most popular time to schedule a ceremony is from October through April. We’re always thinking about hair, and when we hear about a July wedding, we start to picture frizz and flyaways galore from all of that humidity. Let us know when you are planning your ceremony and we will help with the timeline while giving you tips for managing your hair if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

12 Months Before the Wedding

If you have twelve months before your wedding, there’s still plenty of time to start giving your hair the TLC it needs before the big day. Start planning now for a major color transformation! It might seem like overkill to start coloring your hair this far ahead of the wedding date, but trust us, it can take time to get it right! Some colors require gradual changes to get the perfect tone without damaging your hair. There will be plenty of time to tweak the color and get it looking fresh and glossy right before your wedding.  You should also start your hair health reset. Focus on sleep, nutrition, stress management to prevent telogen effluvium, and professional strengthening treatments.

6 Months Before the Wedding

6 months is the time to make big decisions if they haven’t been made already. We’ll finalize your bridal hair color with your dress, venue lighting and makeup in mind, then we will schedule the final big cut. You can indulge in more professional treatments that hydrate and repair your hair.

3 Months Before the Wedding

Ninety days out is crunch time, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. Schedule your trial run so we can test out your style and veil placement. You should also coordinate with the bridal party and fit in anyone else who wants clip-in or halo extensions. Lock in those nutrition and sleep habits, too, so everything from your hair to skin is glowing on the day of your wedding.

1 Month Before the Wedding

This is not the time to start experimenting! No new color experiments, no drastic cuts and no at-home box dye (please, we beg of you). One month out, your hair should look almost exactly like it will on the wedding day, aside from a few last-minute touch-ups.

The Week of Your Wedding

Three to five days before your wedding is the sweet spot for getting your final gloss and root touch-up. Make sure to skip the deep conditioner the night before, since it can leave the hair a little too slippery for pins. Pack yourself a little emergency kit with color-matching bobby pins, flexible-hold hairspray and anti-humidity serum.
